Police Crackdown!! Three Arrested for Assisting Escaped Robbery Suspect

Must read

Three people, including the Security Manager of Mei-Lin International Hotel, have been remanded to Luzira Prison for allegedly helping a wanted robbery suspect escape justice. The accused are linked to Kennedy Nsubuga, who is sought in connection with the robbery of items from Presidential Advisor Jennifer Nakangubi, also known as Full Figure.

Nsubuga, who is married to former Presidential Advisor Justine Namere, became widely known after Nakangubi was violently attacked in a video that went viral on social media. The footage showed unknown assailants beating her on a city street before driving off in a nearby vehicle, raising concerns about the security of prominent figures.

Authorities later tracked Nsubuga and his wife to Mei-Lin International Hotel on Macknon Road, Nakasero. A police team led by CID Deputy Commander Noreen Akello conducted a search of the hotel. Staff claimed ignorance of Nsubuga’s location, and hotel records indicated that Namere had left without giving a return time.

Following investigations, three individuals were identified as having assisted Nsubuga in evading the police. They include Juma Kakooza, the Security Manager at the hotel, Jessy Lugeya, an electrical engineer, and James Asiimwe, a resident of Kira Municipality. The three were charged as accessories after the fact.

Court documents revealed that on September 3, 2025, at Mei-Lin International Hotel, the accused knowingly aided Nsubuga, who was wanted for robbery. Despite the serious charges, all three pleaded not guilty when they appeared before the court.

The magistrate remanded them to Luzira Prison and set the next hearing for October 3, 2025. Meanwhile, investigations continue to track down others who were allegedly involved in assisting Nsubuga to escape justice.

The case has captured public attention, highlighting concerns about security in public spaces and the role of insiders in enabling criminals to evade arrest. Authorities have vowed to continue pursuing all suspects linked to the escape to ensure justice is served.
