Police in the North West Nile region have launched investigations into an alleged rape incident reported at Ikafe Police Training School in Yumbe District. The case was registered under reference number YUMBE CRB 95/2026.

According to the incident report, the alleged assault occurred in the early hours of 4th March 2026 at around 2:00 a.m. inside the female trainees’ dormitory at First Brigade PTS Ikafe. The matter was officially reported later that morning at about 9:00 a.m., and police visited the scene between 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The victim has been identified as Tiboruhanga Judith, a 22-year-old police trainee attached to Squad 54, 3rd Regiment, First Brigade PTS Ikafe. She reported that while asleep in the dormitory, she realized that someone was on top of her.

It is alleged that the unknown suspect had already engaged in sexual intercourse with her before she fully woke up. When she reacted, the suspect reportedly fled the dormitory in the direction of the Mwalims’ quarters.

The report further indicates that at around 4:00 a.m., another suspect allegedly entered the same dormitory and attempted to assault two other female trainees identified as Nambozo Peace and Among Rebecca. The two reportedly raised an alarm, prompting the suspect to flee toward the same direction.

Police officers from Yumbe Central Police Station, together with investigators from Arua, responded to the scene. A team of investigators documented the area and began gathering evidence.

However, police noted that the scene had been tampered with before the canine unit could be introduced, limiting the ability to track the suspect using sniffer dogs.

During the scene examination, officers recovered the victim’s undergarment and bedsheets suspected to contain semen. These items were collected as exhibits to aid forensic investigations.

Medical procedures were also conducted. Vaginal swabs and blood samples were taken from the victim for further analysis as part of the evidence-gathering process.

Authorities have confirmed that inquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the suspect or suspects involved. Investigators are also reviewing security arrangements at the training school.

The incident has raised serious concern about safety within training institutions, especially in residential facilities where trainees are expected to feel secure.

Police have not yet announced any arrests in connection with the case. Efforts are underway to gather additional information and interview potential witnesses.

The North West Nile Regional Police Command has assured the public that the matter is being treated with seriousness and sensitivity. Sexual offense cases, especially within security institutions, are handled with strict confidentiality and urgency.

Officials have also urged anyone with information that may help in identifying the suspect to cooperate with investigators.

As investigations continue, authorities are expected to provide further updates regarding developments in the case.
