Must read

A police officer has died following a mob attack in Salaama Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala, in an incident linked to allegations of phone snatching. The victim, identified as Rashid Engola, was reportedly assaulted by unknown individuals on 5th November 2025.

According to the incident report from Salaama Police Station, the attack was first reported to police by Mukuya, the chairman of the local taxi drivers’ stage. The victim was found severely beaten, bleeding from the head, and unable to speak but still able to sit. Engola was rushed to Mulago Hospital by police for treatment but was pronounced dead on the morning of 6th November 2025.

Investigations revealed that Engola allegedly snatched a mobile phone from a food vendor at Kulekana stage in Salaama Parish. Further checks showed that he was a police officer formerly attached to the FFU Base at Naguru Police Headquarters and later transferred to Abim under the subcounty policing model. However, he reportedly did not report for duty in Abim and had been operating as a boda boda rider in Kampala.

At the scene, Engola was found without an identity card, and his motorcycle (Bajaj CT, red, registration UFU 608F) was recovered and secured at Salaama Police Station. No arrests have been made so far, and the case remains under investigation as authorities work to identify and apprehend the suspects involved.

Police have urged the public to cooperate with the ongoing inquiry and to avoid taking the law into their own hands, stressing that mob justice only escalates violence and puts lives at risk.
