Must read

The Territorial Police in Luwero District have confirmed a serious incident of aggravated robbery involving electoral materials in Makulubita Sub-County, Katikamu County South. The attack happened on the evening of February 4, 2026, at around 8:30pm, at Joy of Salvation Church polling station in Wesune Muto village, Nsanvu Parish. Police say the incident was well-coordinated and targeted materials meant for the electoral process.

According to preliminary investigations, a group of assailants traveling in a silver Toyota Hiace hijacked electoral materials that were being transported in a grey Toyota Wish. The attackers were armed with stones and pangas, which they used to assault polling staff before destroying some materials and fleeing with key electoral items. The sudden and violent nature of the attack caused panic among those present at the polling station.

Several people were injured during the robbery. The driver, Sseruwu Charles, sustained minor injuries, while Kilegeya David and Bukenya Lawrence were seriously injured. Other victims included electoral special polling constables who were on duty at the time. The injured were quickly evacuated and taken to Makulubita Health Centre III, where they received medical treatment.

Police identified some of the suspected attackers, including Kamada Ben and Mududda, among others who are still at large. During the operation, police managed to impound a suspect vehicle believed to have been used in the robbery. The Toyota Hiace was towed to Luweero Central Police Station for further examination.

A number of exhibits were recovered from the impounded vehicle. These included a driver’s license in the name of Sempabuke Julius, a national ID belonging to Nantongo Flavia, a five-litre fuel jerrican, a matchbox, marijuana, cushions and mats, and several electoral-related documents. Among the documents recovered were an original declaration of results form from Kasizi Primary School, DR results forms, official agent tags for NUP, and a small photo of Eng. Kiselo Alex, the Makulubita Sub-County Chairman.

However, police reported that several critical items were stolen during the attack. These include four BVVK machines and three transparent ballot boxes containing already cast ballot papers. Officers noted that as the scene was being released, another gang attempted to steal the recovered exhibits, but police fired warning shots and successfully dispersed them.

Police say the crime scene was fully documented and will be reconstructed as investigations continue. Efforts are underway to arrest all suspects, recover the stolen electoral materials, and ensure the integrity of the electoral process. Authorities have assured the public that more inquiries are ongoing and that anyone involved in the attack will be brought to justice.
