In the early hours of Monday morning, police in Kajjansi launched a targeted operation that led to the arrest of 48 suspects from various crime-prone areas. The operation, conducted on 1st July 2025 at around 3:30 a.m., was led by the Kajjansi Police Division under Kampala Metropolitan Police South, and aimed at disrupting criminal activities within the division.
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the operation followed credible intelligence pointing to growing criminal activity in black spots around Lweza. These areas have become known for illegal gatherings, gambling, and loitering, especially during odd hours.
The arrests took place in three major locations. 18 suspects were picked up from Muchanga, 20 from Kajjansi, and another 10 from Sanyu Brothel, which is listed among the area’s top crime hotspots. The operation targeted individuals believed to be involved in robberies, theft, and other criminal behavior that has recently affected the safety of residents.
Preliminary investigations revealed that some of the youths arrested were disguising themselves as bottle and garbage collectors during the day. However, during the night, they reportedly carried out robberies and attacks on homes. Police officers found and recovered tools suspected to be used in housebreaking, including 2 pliers, 3 testas, and 3 knives. These items were secured as evidence.
Statements from victims and arresting officers have been recorded. All 48 suspects, most of whom are aged between 17 and 23 years, are currently being held at Bwebajja and Lubowa Police Stations. They will remain in custody as investigations continue, and they are expected to appear in court soon.
The police emphasized that such intelligence-led operations are part of a wider strategy to dismantle criminal networks and protect local communities. They urged the public to stay alert and continue sharing timely information that could help prevent crime and bring offenders to justice.
