The body of 9-year-old Nanyonga Shanitah, who tragically drowned in a water channel near her school in Kabuuma, Wakiso District, has been recovered.
The Police Marines and the community worked together to retrieve the body this morning, and it has been taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
According to police reports, Shanitah’s aunt had escorted her to school, but she returned home to pick up a forgotten pen. Sadly, while crossing the water channel, she slipped and fell in.
The school is just 10 meters from the water channel, which carries a significant amount of water.
The community’s efforts in helping to retrieve the body are truly appreciated.
SSP Patrick Onyango the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson said, police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
