Fifteen passengers who were traveling in a taxi have been confirmed dead on spot after the car got involved in road accident. Police say the speeding taxi registration number UBD 089A which was travelling from Namayingo heading to Kampala rammed into a stationed sugar cane truck registration number UWP 616 at Imanyiro village.
According to eyewitness, the taxi was over speeding and there was another trailer coming from the opposite side, so the driver could not overtake but tried to stop the taxi and failed knocking a parked truck.
Eyewitnesses say they rushed to save some lives but it was too late. “We thought we would find some people alive and we rush them to the hospital but when we reached we found all of the dead,” says one of the eyewitnesses who were at the scene of crime.
ASP James Mubi the Police spokesperson for Busoga East confirmed the accident and said all passengers died on spot.
“We reached at the scene of crime shortly after the accident occurred and found all passengers dead, he says adding bodies were taken to Mayuge health Centre IV for post Morten examination. Mubi adds that the cause of accident is not yet established but the preliminary findings show over speeding of a taxi.
