Road Project Gets Boost as Government Pushes for Faster Work

Must read

The Ministry of Works and Transport has released an update on a key road construction project that is currently underway in several parts of the country. So far, the project has reached only 6% physical progress, and the contractor has been urged to speed up the work in order to recover from the time lost. The Ministry is closely monitoring the situation and has emphasized the importance of meeting deadlines to ensure that the public benefits from improved transport links without further delays.

To support faster progress, the Ministry is also actively working on land acquisition and compensating Project Affected Persons (PAPs). This step is vital because it allows the contractor more right of way to carry out construction activities without interruptions. The government is committed to making sure these administrative processes do not hold back the physical work on the ground.

The project follows a Design and Build model and includes several critical road sections. These are Kisubi–Nakawuka–Nateete (27km), Nakawuka–Kasanje–Mpigi (22km), Nakawuka–Mawagulu–Nanziga–Maya (11km), Kasanje–Buwaya (9km), and Entebbe–Nakiwogo. These roads are expected to ease traffic, improve transport efficiency, and open up economic opportunities in the affected areas once they are completed.

In addition to the main construction work, the contractor will carry out forward maintenance along the Nakawuka–Kisubi section. The contractor is also expected to resume activities in specific sections where rock fill works and bush clearing will be done. These initial tasks are important for preparing the ground for more advanced stages of road building.

The Ministry has expressed its commitment to ensuring this project succeeds and meets its goals. With ongoing land compensation and improved access to construction areas, both the government and the contractor are hopeful that progress will pick up and deliver the intended benefits to Ugandans as soon as possible.
