A heartbreaking fire incident in Mpala Cell, Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District has claimed the lives of three young girls in the early hours of 15th August 2025. The victims, identified as Namiru Ellah, 12, Amani Namulema, 5, and Namujju Tamale, 3, were all juveniles who tragically lost their lives while at home.

Preliminary reports indicate that the children were left unattended by their mother, Nalubwama Julie, while their father, Kavuma Lenon, was away in Jinja for work. The fire broke out at around 1:00 am, and was first reported to the police by the local LC1 Chairperson. Firefighters responded promptly and were able to extinguish the blaze, but not before the devastating loss of life.

Two of the girls’ bodies were recovered outside the burnt house, while the third was found inside, severely burnt and unrecognizable. Police quickly documented the scene and recorded witness statements to aid in the investigation. The bodies were taken to the City Mortuary for postmortem examination as authorities work to establish the exact cause of the fire.

The tragic incident has left the local community in shock and mourning. Investigators are continuing their work to understand how the fire started and why the children were left alone during the dangerous hours of the night.

This sad event serves as a painful reminder of the importance of child safety and the need for vigilance when young children are at home, especially during the night. Residents are urged to ensure the safety of minors to prevent such devastating losses in the future.
