In a heartbreaking turn of events, a quiet Sunday afternoon turned into a scene of tragedy when an Isuzu bus belonging to Pokopoko Company overturned at Biwanga along the Mubende-Kyegegwa highway.

The deadly crash, which occurred at approximately 2:20 PM on April 20, 2025, claimed the lives of two passengers, an adult woman and a young girl and left twelve others nursing injuries.

According to preliminary investigations, the driver of the ill-fated bus, registration number UBR 796N, lost control after one of the tyres suddenly burst. The vehicle swerved violently before overturning off the roadside, throwing passengers into panic and chaos.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of horror as rescue efforts began. Locals and good Samaritans rushed to help the injured, while emergency responders worked swiftly to transport victims to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital.

Among the dead was a woman believed to be in her late 30s and a juvenile female passenger, whose identities have yet to be officially released. The 12 injured passengers are currently receiving medical attention, with some reported to be in critical condition.

Speaking on the matter, Traffic and Road Safety spokesperson SP Kananura Michael urged all motorists to take road safety seriously: “We continue to remind all drivers to thoroughly inspect their vehicles, especially the condition and lifespan of tyres, before setting off. A single oversight can turn a routine trip into a fatal accident.”

This tragedy serves as a somber reminder of the fragile line between safety and catastrophe on our roads.
