Salt TV’s ‘Omusunsuzi’ Pulled Off Air for Violating Broadcasting Standards

Must read

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has ordered Salt TV to suspend its popular morning program, “Omusunsuzi,” following reports that the show violated broadcasting standards. The decision came after routine monitoring and numerous complaints from viewers who expressed concern about the content aired during the early morning hours. The program, which runs from 6:00 am to 8:00 am on weekdays, was found to contain abusive language, inappropriate material, and unprofessional behavior by the presenters.

The Commission highlighted that the show’s timing is particularly concerning because children are likely to be watching at that hour, potentially exposing them to harmful content. Acting under its mandate provided by the Uganda Communications Act, Cap. 106, the UCC has directed Salt TV to immediately stop airing the program. Additionally, the broadcaster is required to submit written responses to the complaints, provide recordings of all shows aired between August 1 and September 12, 2025, and share the program scripts with the Commission.

Salt TV has been given until Friday, September 19, 2025, to confirm full compliance with the directive and submit the requested materials. The UCC emphasized its commitment to protecting the public from offensive or harmful content and ensuring that all broadcasters maintain high professional standards. This action serves as a reminder to media houses about their responsibility to provide safe and responsible programming, especially during hours when young viewers are most likely to be watching.
