Must read

The Police at Wakiso have registered a suspected suicide that occurred on 03/03/2026 at around 8:00pm at Kololo Junior School, Kayunga Cell, Gombe Ward, Wakiso Town Council, Wakiso District.

The tragic incident has shocked the local community and left many searching for answers. The deceased, identified as Kiseka John Terry, was a 14-year-old primary five pupil at the school. According to preliminary reports, the incident unfolded late in the evening as students returned to their dormitories after evening study sessions. They discovered Terry’s lifeless body hanging inside one of the dorms. Panicked and deeply shaken, the pupils immediately informed the matron, who then contacted the school director. The police were alerted soon after.

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers found Terry’s body suspended by a red scarf tied to a roofing pole. The sight of such a young life lost has raised alarm over the emotional and mental well-being of students in schools. The authorities have since arrested the school’s director and matron to assist with the ongoing investigation into the incident. As the case unfolds, questions surrounding the circumstances leading to Terry’s death continue to emerge.

The body of the young boy was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination, which will hopefully provide more clarity on what led to this devastating tragedy. Police are urging the public to be patient as investigations are conducted, but they also emphasize the importance of understanding the potential signs of depression and distress in children.

This tragic event has brought to light the urgent need for schools, parents, and guardians to become more aware of the mental health challenges faced by young people today. Experts suggest that early detection of emotional distress can significantly help prevent such heartbreaking situations. Authorities are encouraging individuals to be more proactive in checking for signs of depression, especially in children who may not always express their feelings openly.

Mental health professionals emphasize the importance of open communication between children, parents, and teachers. Creating a supportive environment, where children feel comfortable sharing their feelings, is crucial in combating the growing concerns of mental health issues among young people. Additionally, schools are encouraged to have counselors and programs in place to support students emotionally and mentally.

As investigations continue into Terry’s suspected suicide, this tragedy serves as a reminder to all that the mental health of young individuals must not be overlooked. While the school and police continue their inquiries, the wider community is left grappling with the heart-wrenching loss of a young student with so much potential ahead of him.

This incident calls for greater awareness and action to ensure that children in Uganda, and everywhere else, receive the support and guidance they need to navigate the challenges of growing up.
