Police have arrested 11 suspects during a late-night operation in Kigombya, Mukono Central Division, as part of ongoing efforts to fight crime in the Kampala Metropolitan Area. The operation took place on 1st February 2026 at about 11:00pm and targeted a black spot that had been identified as a hideout for suspected criminals.
The area is believed to be a gathering point for individuals involved in smoking marijuana, waylaying people, and robbing members of the public, especially at night.According to police, the operation was intelligence-led and aimed at disrupting criminal activities before they happen. Officers moved in and arrested the 11 suspects who were found in the mapped-out area.
All of them are currently in police custody and will be taken to court to face charges related to their alleged involvement in criminal acts.In a similar operation earlier, on 30th January 2026 at around 6:00pm, Kampala Central Police Station (CPS) officers, working together with local leaders, carried out a large-scale crackdown codenamed “FUKUZA MAFISADI.” The operation covered several parts of the city including Nakasero, Entebbe Road, Nasser Road, behind Church House, Railway Grounds, Punjani, the Electoral Commission area, and Mukwano.
Police said these places had been identified as black spots where groups of youth often hide and later engage in criminal activities. These include snatching mobile phones and handbags from pedestrians, as well as stealing vehicle parts from motorists stuck in traffic jams. Such crimes have been a growing concern for city residents and business people.During the “FUKUZA MAFISADI” operation, a total of 100 suspects were arrested.
Police say the suspects are expected to appear in court on 2nd February 2026. The goal of these operations is to break criminal networks, reduce drug abuse, and make the city safer for everyone.Police have promised to continue carrying out disruptive operations in different parts of the metropolitan area. They are also urging the public to work closely with security agencies by reporting suspicious individuals and activities, saying that community cooperation is very important in the fight against crime.
