Security Under Siege!! Armed Groups Target UPDF and Police in Western Uganda, UPDF Speaks

Must read

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has reported a series of coordinated attacks carried out by armed groups in the western districts of Bundibugyo, Kasese, and Fort Portal. The attacks occurred on November 1, 2025, and targeted both police and military positions. The assailants used submachine guns and machetes to attack Kasese and Lugendabara Police posts, as well as UPDF positions at Malindi and Kakuka in Bundibugyo, and Canon Apollo School in Fort Portal.

UPDF forces, working closely with the Uganda Police Force, responded swiftly to the attacks. Several attackers were subdued, while others fled, and operations are ongoing to track them down. Sadly, the violence resulted in the death of one civilian woman in Malindi and one soldier was killed in action.

The UPDF praised the courage and professionalism of its personnel, who acted with precision to protect lives and property. Investigations are underway to determine the motives, affiliations, and origin of the armed groups. The forces have also reinforced security measures to ensure stability in the affected areas and prevent further attacks.

The UPDF condemned any attempt to disrupt peace in Uganda and reassured residents of Bundibugyo, Kasese, and Fort Portal that the situation is under control. The public has been urged to remain calm, vigilant, and to cooperate with security agencies. Anyone noticing suspicious activity is encouraged to report it immediately to the nearest police or military post.

Uganda’s military remains committed to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and protecting its citizens, emphasizing that peace and security are top priorities for all Ugandans.
