Senior Superintendent Nickson Agasirwe’s Bail Hearing Postponed as Prosecution Fails to Appear

Must read

Senior Superintendent of Police Nickson Agasirwe appeared before the High Court in Kampala earlier today for a much-awaited bail ruling. However, the hearing did not proceed as planned after the prosecution team failed to show up in court. The unexpected absence led to the postponement of the session, leaving many people in the courtroom surprised and disappointed.

Agasirwe’s lawyers informed the court that they had already served all the necessary affidavits to the prosecution. According to the defense team, they followed all legal procedures and were ready to proceed with the bail application. They expressed concern about the delay, saying their client has been on remand for a long time and deserves a fair and timely hearing.

The High Court judge had no choice but to adjourn the matter after confirming that the prosecution was not present. The case has now been pushed to March 18, 2026, when the court is expected to hear and possibly decide on the bail application. This new date means Agasirwe will continue staying on remand until at least then.

Agasirwe has been in custody since June 2025. He is facing charges related to the murder of former Senior Principal State Attorney Joan Kagezi. Kagezi was a respected prosecutor who handled several high-profile cases in Uganda before her tragic killing shocked the nation. Her death raised serious concerns about the safety of judicial officers and state prosecutors.

The case against Agasirwe has attracted public attention due to the senior positions involved. Many Ugandans continue to follow the court proceedings closely, hoping for justice and transparency. The postponement of the bail ruling has once again highlighted the slow pace of legal processes in some high-profile cases.

As the new hearing date approaches, all eyes will remain on the High Court in Kampala. The upcoming session on March 18 is expected to be crucial, as it may determine whether Agasirwe will be granted bail or remain in custody as the trial continues.
