The Uganda Police Force in Greater Bushenyi has released a detailed update on the progress of investigations into aggravated robbery cases and the alleged unlawful killing of 53 heads of cattle reported in February 2026. The statement was issued by SP Tayebwa Apollo, the Public Relations Officer for the region.
According to police, a total of six aggravated robbery cases involving the use of firearms were registered within Bushenyi District and Ishaka Division during February. The incidents occurred in different areas, including Kyeitembe West Cell, Kyanyamabona Village in Bugomora Cell, Katungu Cell, and Katooma Cell in Ibaare Sub County.
Police revealed that during the sixth incident at Katooma Cell, a suspect was arrested by members of the public while allegedly robbing a bar. The suspect, identified as Kankiriho Ramathan alias Samuel, was later re-arrested by police and formally charged.
He was arraigned before court on 27th February 2026 in connection with three aggravated robbery case files where sufficient evidence had been gathered. However, investigations into the remaining three firearm-related robbery cases are still ongoing due to limited evidence at the time the files were submitted.
In addition to gun-related robberies, police also recorded six other aggravated robbery cases where suspects used pangas, sticks, stones, and other crude weapons. These incidents were reported in areas such as Kagati Village near the SDA Church in Kizinda Town Council, Kashenyi Town in Ibaare Sub County, and several parts of Ishaka Division.
Following thorough investigations, three suspects were arrested in connection with the robberies involving crude weapons. The suspects — Byampiika Eliad alias Boyize, Ssekajja Ramathan alias Kyojo, and Basajja Rashid — were charged and presented before court on 27th February 2026. They were remanded as investigations continue.
Police have confirmed that other suspects linked to the robberies are still at large. Security agencies have launched targeted operations to track them down and ensure they are brought to justice.
Meanwhile, police are also investigating a serious case involving the alleged unlawful killing of 53 heads of cattle belonging to several complainants. The matter has caused concern among livestock farmers in the region.
In connection with the case, Turyasingura Gordon was arrested and charged with criminal trespass. The case file was submitted to the Resident State Attorney on 26th February 2026 for legal guidance, and the suspect is expected to appear before court.
Another suspect, Nuwagaba Damalie, a hotel operator reportedly dealing in cow heads, was also arrested. She is currently assisting police with investigations as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police have opened a General Enquiry File to allow for comprehensive investigations into the killing of the cattle. This process will help determine whether additional charges or suspects may arise.
The Greater Bushenyi Regional Police Command has assured the public that operations against aggravated robbery suspects are ongoing. Officers are working closely with sister security agencies to restore safety and confidence in the community.
Police have also praised members of the public who helped in the arrest of some suspects, especially in the Katooma incident. Authorities say community cooperation remains critical in fighting crime.
Residents have been urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station. Timely information, police say, can greatly support ongoing investigations and prevent further crimes.
As investigations continue, police have promised to provide more updates to the public. The security agencies maintain that all identified suspects will be pursued and dealt with according to the law.
The recent arrests mark a significant step in addressing the wave of robberies and livestock-related crimes in the region. However, authorities stress that sustained community support and continued security operations are essential to ensuring lasting peace and order in Greater Bushenyi.
