Today, 6th October 2025, presidential candidate Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert was scheduled to travel to Mityana District for a campaign rally. According to authorities, Kyagulanyi was expected to use the Mityana Highway, but instead, he chose to take Hoima Road for his journey. Security teams had already been deployed along the planned route to ensure smooth movement and maintain order during his travel.
However, as news spread about Kyagulanyi’s campaign, a group of National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters gathered at Bujjuko Trading Centre along the Mityana Highway. The crowd began drumming, whistling, and chanting, eventually blocking sections of the road. Their excitement soon turned into a disruption, affecting traffic flow and causing delays for other road users.
Security officers at the scene tried to calm the situation and urged the supporters to clear the road. Despite several warnings, the group reportedly refused to disperse. As a result, police moved in to restore order and arrested about 29 individuals, who are now being held at Wakiso Police Division for further questioning.
In a statement, the security authorities emphasized that while every presidential candidate has the right to campaign, they must also respect traffic rules and follow the approved travel routes. The statement added that disorderly behavior and road blockades put the lives and rights of other citizens at risk.
The incident has once again highlighted the tension and high emotions that often accompany campaign activities during Uganda’s election season. Authorities have called for calm, urging all political players and supporters to act responsibly and ensure peaceful campaigns across the country.
