Top Story!! After the NEC, Museveni Calls for Equal Respect for All NRM Members

Must read

After the recent NEC conference, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni addressed a recurring debate within the National Resistance Movement (NRM) about the equality of old and new members. The issue, initially raised by Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, questioned whether longevity in the party should determine influence or recognition. In his follow-up remarks, Museveni reminded the party that this matter had already been settled long ago and emphasized the importance of unity.

The President made it clear that it would be both insulting and counterproductive to treat members differently based on how long they have been in the party. Everyone who joins the NRM to strengthen it should be welcomed and respected. Creating divisions between “old” and “new” members risks alienating those who bring fresh energy, ideas, and commitment to serving the people, undermining the party’s collective strength.

Museveni further highlighted the role of senior members as leaders and mentors. By focusing on the Kukyenuura of the people—solving real problems through government programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga—veteran members ensure that their contributions remain unmatched. Their leadership is not about asserting status but about guiding the party and reinforcing its mission to serve Ugandans.

In conclusion, the President’s message emphasized that the NRM’s strength lies not in seniority but in dedication to the people. By valuing all members equally and prioritizing service over hierarchy, the party can continue to thrive as a unified and effective force for national development
