The Uganda Police Force has carried out a major intelligence-led operation across the Kampala Metropolitan Area, rounding up over 100 suspects in a bid to curb rising cases of robbery, drug abuse, and theft. The joint operation, conducted between October 28 and 29, 2025, covered several divisions including Kampala Central, Kira Municipality, Kajjansi, and Mukono.
According to a press statement released by ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP), the operation was part of an ongoing effort to dismantle criminal networks that have been terrorizing residents in different parts of the city. “These were intelligence-led, disruptive operations aimed at restoring peace and safety in known black spots,” Owoyesigyire said.

In Kampala Central Division, police targeted areas notorious for street crime and theft of motor vehicle parts, leading to the arrest of 40 suspects. Many of the individuals rounded up were reportedly involved in nighttime robberies, phone snatching, and vandalizing vehicles parked along city streets. The suspects are currently being screened as investigations continue.
In Kira Municipality, which covers Kitukutwe, Kiwologoma, Kungu, Buwate, and Najjera, police arrested seven suspects found with suspected narcotics and a toy gun believed to have been used in several robbery attempts. Authorities say the area has become a hotbed for small-scale drug trafficking and criminal gangs that target boda boda riders and pedestrians.
Meanwhile, in Kajjansi Division, another 45 suspects were arrested from Ngobe, Sseguku, and Kajjansi town for alleged involvement in early-morning robberies and thefts. Police say these suspects often operate along highways, targeting commuters heading to work during the dawn hours. Several exhibits, including knives and suspected stolen phones, were recovered during the operation.
In Mukono District, a joint team of detectives and local security personnel conducted an overnight raid in Kyugu and Kisenyi–Degeya, arresting nine suspects who were found in possession of suspected narcotic substances. The operation was based on intelligence reports linking the suspects to a drug distribution network that has been supplying narcotics to young people in the area.
ASP Owoyesigyire emphasized that all suspects are being detained at their respective police stations pending screening and prosecution. He noted that some of the individuals arrested are repeat offenders who have been on police watchlists for months. The public has been encouraged to share information that could help police identify other members of these criminal groups.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police leadership praised the teamwork between local communities and law enforcement, saying that tip-offs from residents played a big role in the success of the operation. “We appreciate the vigilance of community members who continue to work with us to expose criminal activity,” said Owoyesigyire.
These operations come at a time when urban crime rates in Kampala have raised public concern, with frequent reports of robberies, drug-related offenses, and motor vehicle theft. The police have promised to maintain regular patrols, intelligence gathering, and follow-up operations to ensure that law and order are restored.
ASP Owoyesigyire concluded the statement by reaffirming police commitment to enhancing public safety across the metropolitan area. “Our mission is to ensure every citizen can move, work, and live in peace. We will not stop until all criminal networks are dismantled,” he said. The arrests mark one of the largest coordinated crackdowns in recent months, signaling renewed police determination to secure Kampala and its surrounding districts.
