Must read

In the early hours of Sunday, 30th November 2025, Ziringura Ronard, the driver of a bus registered as UBM 706X and belonging to Gateway Bus Company, was detained by police for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. The arrest occurred at 1:56am, and following a roadside test, he was found to be intoxicated. He is currently being held at Mpigi Police Station and is expected to appear in court tomorrow to face charges related to drink-driving.

Authorities have emphasized that this arrest is part of their ongoing “Arrive Alive” campaign, which focuses on ensuring road safety, especially during periods of increased traffic. Police checkpoints across the country are actively testing drivers, aiming to prevent accidents caused by alcohol consumption behind the wheel. Officials have warned motorists to take the message seriously: driving under the influence is not only illegal but also endangers lives.

The police urge everyone to make responsible choices on the roads. “Say NO to drink and driving. Your safety and that of other road users matters,” they stated, reminding the public that these operations are continuous and that all drivers are subject to testing at any time. This incident highlights the commitment of law enforcement to reducing road accidents and keeping Uganda’s highways safe for all travelers.
