Must read

A shocking video recently made rounds on TikTok showing a man sitting on a wooden chair placed on top of a moving taxi. The incident, which happened in Nsambya, Kampala, has stirred strong reactions from the public and attracted the attention of the Uganda Police. Authorities have now confirmed the arrest of the driver of the taxi, registered UAZ 910B, along with his conductor.

According to the police, the viral video showed clear evidence of dangerous and unlawful behavior. The man on top of the taxi was seen calmly seated as the vehicle moved through the area, a scene that has been described as extremely risky and irresponsible. The stunt reportedly took place in a location where there was no active traffic officer on duty at the time.

The police used CCTV cameras to track down the vehicle, which has since been impounded. The driver and conductor were arrested and are currently being held at Kabalagala Police Station. Investigations revealed that the man seen on top of the vehicle is a content creator on TikTok. He allegedly paid UGX 20,000 to the taxi crew to let him perform the stunt.

All individuals involved now face serious legal consequences. The driver and conductor are being charged under Section 117 (1) and (2) of the Traffic and Road Safety Act (CAP. 347) for carrying a person in a dangerous manner. Police are also hunting for the TikToker, who will face similar charges once found.

In a statement, SP Michael Kananura, the Traffic Police spokesperson, strongly condemned the act. He reminded the public that such reckless behavior should never be tolerated, even if done in the name of content creation or entertainment. He emphasized that road safety must always come first and urged everyone to act responsibly.

This incident serves as a strong warning against putting lives at risk for fame or social media likes. The police have vowed to continue enforcing traffic laws strictly to keep the roads safe for all users.
