In the early hours of Thursday, 29th May 2025, tragedy struck the peaceful neighborhood of Bukasa, Kirinya, in Bweyogerere, Wakiso District. A devastating fire broke out at around 3:00 AM, claiming the lives of six family members in what has become one of the most heartbreaking incidents in the area’s recent memory.
According to police reports from the Kira Division, a loud blast was heard coming from the home of 45-year-old Ssekabila Fred. Alarmed by the explosion, neighbors rushed out of their homes in an attempt to help, only to find the house already consumed by fierce flames. Despite their best efforts, the fire had spread too quickly, making it impossible to reach anyone inside.
The Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Services responded promptly after being alerted. Their swift actions helped to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby houses. Once the fire was under control, a team of investigators began a careful examination of the scene.
Sadly, inside the burned-down house, they found six bodies. The victims were all members of the same family: Ssekabila Fred, his wife Gonja Winniefred, and their children—Nabuya Gloria (20), Nakakira Peace (16), Nakamya Helena (9), and Nebula Briyan (7). The entire family perished in the tragic incident.
The bodies have since been transported to the City Mortuary at Mulago for postmortem examinations. While the cause of the fire is still unknown, early reports suggest that Ssekabila Fred may have shown signs of suicidal thoughts in the days leading up to the fire. Police are currently investigating this angle, among others, to determine whether the fire was accidental or intentional.
This heartbreaking event has shaken the local community, leaving neighbors and friends in deep shock and mourning. The police have expressed their deepest sympathies to the bereaved community and assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway.
