In a significant gathering that brought together leaders from across the logistics sector, Mr. Fred Otunnu, Director of Corporate Affairs, officially inaugurated the Annual Postal & Courier Engagement, representing the Executive Director. The event drew attention to the rapidly evolving landscape of postal and courier services in Uganda.
Addressing attendees, Mr. Otunnu emphasized that the logistics industry is no longer just about moving goods from one point to another. “Logistics today is no longer simply about transportation; it is about digital integration, transparency, accountability, and speed,” he remarked, highlighting the urgent need for innovation in the sector.
He noted that the sector has become a critical backbone for the country’s e-commerce boom, enabling small and medium enterprises to reach wider markets more efficiently. Courier and postal networks, he said, are increasingly bridging gaps for businesses and consumers alike.
Beyond domestic trade, Mr. Otunnu stressed the growing importance of cross-border logistics. With Uganda becoming more connected to regional and international markets, reliable postal and courier systems are essential to support trade, maintain competitiveness, and foster economic growth.
The director also underscored the value of collaboration, calling on regulators, government bodies, and service providers to work together in creating a resilient, future-ready logistics ecosystem. He noted that cooperation is key to tackling challenges such as inefficiencies, delays, and outdated infrastructure.
Innovation, he added, must extend beyond technology. Processes, customer engagement, and operational transparency all play a vital role in strengthening the sector. Companies that adapt quickly to changing demands, he argued, will lead the market in the years ahead.
Participants were encouraged to view the postal and courier sector not merely as a support service but as a strategic enabler of Uganda’s broader economic ambitions. By embracing modernization, accountability, and speed, the sector can unlock immense potential for businesses, entrepreneurs, and consumers.
Concluding his remarks, Mr. Otunnu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting reforms and investments in logistics. “The future of Uganda’s trade and commerce depends on a postal and courier system that is agile, trustworthy, and digitally empowered,” he stated, leaving attendees with a clear vision of the sector’s pivotal role.
