Joint security forces from the Uganda Police Force Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) and the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) 46 Battalion have successfully recovered two firearms and other items from armed warriors in Lochom Valley, Sidok Sub-county, Kaabong District. The operation was carried out on 14th February 2026 at around 5:00 p.m., following credible intelligence about a planned raid in the area.
According to security sources, the joint team acted swiftly after receiving information that a group of armed warriors was preparing to carry out an attack. The forces moved into Lochom Valley and managed to intercept the suspects. During the operation, two SMG rifles, eight rounds of ammunition, and some clothing believed to belong to the suspects were recovered.
However, despite the successful recovery of the weapons, the armed warriors managed to escape from the scene. Reports indicate that they fled with one illegal firearm, which remains in their possession. Security teams have since intensified operations in the area to track down the suspects and recover the remaining weapon.
The Anti-Stock Theft Unit and the UPDF have reassured residents of Sidok Sub-county and the wider Kaabong District that efforts are ongoing to maintain peace and prevent cattle raids and other criminal activities. Authorities have urged members of the community to remain vigilant and to share any useful information that could help security forces apprehend the suspects.
The operation highlights the continued commitment of joint security forces to protect lives and property in the Karamoja sub-region. Investigations and pursuit of the suspects are still underway as security remains on high alert in the area.
