UBOS TO Enhance Statistical Information to Bunyoro And Bugisu Kingdoms As MOU Is Signed

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) the independent body responsible for providing data and statistics to the Country has today signed a memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Bunyoro Kitara and Bugisu Kingdoms to enhance data and statistics usage. The MOU was signed at UBOS headquarters in Kampala under supervision of ED Dr Chris Mukiza and each Kingdom had representatives on behalf of their Kings.

In his remarks, the UBOS ED Dr Chris Mukiza says the institution will promote, pattern with cultural institutions on how to use statistics for each planning and development of their Kingdoms.

“Your data will help you in planning and administration of your Kingdoms,”Says Dr Chris Mukiza adding that MOU is now signed UBOS is going to make a Statistical plan on how to use the data.

“We shall be promoting National Statistical System on how to use data to develop our people,” he adds saying that UBOS will establish a Statistical unit every Kingdom.

“We shall attach UBOS staffs who will train Kingdom officials on how to generate data and use,” he revealed adding that this year UBOS will open regional Offices in Bugisu and then next year we shall open in Bunyoro Kitara.

He further says UBOS will also give three computers and tablets to each Kingdom for data gathering. ” We don’t want information on paper, we must go digital,” she stresses. He added that UBOS together with cultural institutions will be sensitizing the public the importance of data to all groups of people.

The Prime Minister of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom says the Kingdom requested UBOS to provide statistics and date in 2020 and is happy to see that happen. “In 2018 Our King directed us to change the way we do business but we failed due to lack of data and statistics,” he says. He added that Data will help them to evaluate the performance of their Kingdoms.

“Data will help to keep the Kingdom focusing on National Development. He also assured the Nation that both parties will benefit from this MOU.

The Representative of Bugisu says the Kingdom couldn’t take based decisions due to lack of information and data. “UBOS will exercise it’s mandate by providing data and we shall follow them,” he says. The data and statistics will help us to know how many of our boys are circumised every year in our traditional. It will also help us to know how many Bambus and Malewa do we get from Mt elgon annually
