UBOS, UNICEF Sign Shs 7bn MOU To Conduct Child Survey

The Uganda National Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) an independent body responsible for conducting and disseminating National Statistics to all Government agencies has today signed a Memorandum of Understanding worth 2m $ approximately to Shs 7bn with United International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) to conduct a 2 year Children survey in Uganda, Spyreports has learnt.

The bidding MOU was signed at UBOS headquarters in Kampala by UBOS ED Dr Chris Mukiza and UNICEF Representative in Uganda Dr Robin Nandy and witnessed by members from both parties. Dr Robin says the multiple indicator Cluster Survey is scheduled to kick off in 2026 and be concluded in 2027.

“This landmark survey will play a crucial role in monitoring the implementation of Uganda’s National Development plan IV (NPPIV) 2025/26-2020/20 as well as trucking progress towards the sustainable Development goals and other international development communities including UN convection on rights of children,” he says adding that the insights gains will help to understand today’s challenges, measure the impact and shape the future direction of policies,programmes and investment of children.

“Multiple indicator Cluster Survey 2026/27 role is to ensure every child is counted and no one is left behind,” Says Dr Robin. He further says the data collected will inform National strategies and empower communities, donors,and patterns channels where they are needed most for children. He adds that “let us remember that behind each Statistic is a human,” he says adding that a child who deserves to grow up healthy and educated,a mother seeking safe water and nutrition for her family, a community aspiring for a bright future. “As head of UNICE in Uganda, I can assure my technical and financial support throughout the process, working hand in hand with partnership,to ensure the highest standards of data quality and integrity,” He sounds adding Multiple indicator Cluster Survey has been conducted in 120 countries since 1990s, with more than 400 surveys completed so far.

The UBOS ED Dr Chris Mukiza in his remarks says Children poverty in Uganda is still persistent according to survey that was conducted six years ago.”in 2026 ,we shall have several activities that will include,preparations,forming technical staff field work activities among others and in 2027, the report be completed and disseminated,” Says the National Chief Statistician.

He further assured UNICEF of transparency and accountability during the process. “There will be no coin lost during the survey as long as am the ED,” He assures adding UBOS conducted Census and there was no case of corruption or misuse of resources.
