UCC and EACO Lead the Way in Shaping a Modern Postal Sector

Must read

The 4th Annual East African Communications Organisation (EACO) Post and Logistics Forum in Kampala has successfully concluded, leaving a strong mark on the region’s postal and logistics sectors. Hon. Nyombi Thembo, Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), expressed heartfelt gratitude to all delegates, participants, and partners for their invaluable contributions over the past three days. The forum provided a unique platform for collaboration, learning, and innovation, allowing stakeholders to explore ways to enhance customer and supplier satisfaction in an increasingly digital world.

Throughout the forum, discussions emphasized the vital role of the postal industry in connecting communities and delivering essential services. Hon. Thembo noted that the sector is evolving rapidly, and it is crucial for postal services to remain efficient, relevant, and responsive to the needs of customers. He commended EACO for fostering regional cooperation and providing a space where best practices and innovative ideas can be shared across member countries.

Uganda’s regulatory readiness was also highlighted as a key factor in supporting a modern postal market. According to national law, anyone delivering parcels or packages for a fee must obtain a license from the UCC. The UCC website provides clear guidance on how to acquire these licenses, which include Domestic National Courier Services License, Domestic City-to-City Courier License, Regional Courier License, and International Courier License. Dr. Abudu Sallam Waiswa, Head of Litigation, Prosecution and Legal Advisory at UCC, explained that this regulatory framework allows the commission to effectively oversee and regulate the sector while providing flexibility for small businesses.

As the forum concluded, participants were encouraged to apply the knowledge and insights gained to drive transformation in their respective postal services. Hon. Thembo emphasized that together, stakeholders can elevate service excellence, support economic growth, and ensure the postal sector meets the evolving needs of communities across Uganda and the East African region.
