The governments of Uganda and Egypt have signed a visa-free agreement for holders of official and diplomatic passports, Spyreports has learnt.
This information was revealed by the Spokesperson of Immigration, Simon Mundeyi, while addressing the media at Police Headquarters in Naguru, a Kampala suburb.
He said the agreement between the two countries was signed on 17th January 2026. “It has been very difficult for Ugandan diplomats to travel to Egypt for official duties due to the long process for obtaining visas,” he said. He added that after prolonged talks, a mutual agreement was finally reached.
“It is now official that Ugandan diplomats and officials on duty can enter Egypt without a visa, and the same applies to Egyptian diplomats entering Uganda,” he said.
He, however, added that ordinary citizens will still need to apply for a visa to enter Egypt.
He also revealed that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has allowed Ugandan officials and diplomats to enter the country visa-free for up to 90 days. Similarly, UAE officials and diplomats can enter Uganda visa-free for 90 days.
