Uganda Launches Mandatory Vehicle Inspections, Starting with Government Cars

Must read

The Government of Uganda has taken a big step toward improving road safety and vehicle standards by starting the process of automated vehicle inspections. This new system will first be used on government-owned vehicles before expanding to other sectors. The goal is to make sure that every vehicle on the road is in good condition, safe, and meets national standards.

To kick off the program, the government held a successful stakeholder meeting with key representatives from the transport industry. These included the Uganda Bus Owners Association (UBOA), Uganda Taxi Operators Federation (UTOF) – Kampala, the Boda-Boda Association, and the Regional Lorry Drivers and Transporters Association. Their involvement is important because they represent large numbers of vehicles and drivers across the country.

During the meeting, officials shared a detailed presentation explaining the goals of the inspection program. They highlighted how the new system will help reduce accidents, improve vehicle condition, and promote safer roads for everyone. The session also encouraged open discussions, where stakeholders gave their feedback and shared their concerns and suggestions.

This marks a major move towards modernizing how vehicles are checked in Uganda. Instead of relying only on manual inspections, the new system will use automated technology to make the process faster, more accurate, and more reliable. The government hopes this will lead to better enforcement of road safety laws and encourage all vehicle owners to keep their cars in good working condition.

As the program begins with the government fleet, it sets an example for the private sector to follow. In the near future, other vehicles—such as taxis, buses, motorcycles, and trucks—will also be expected to go through regular automated inspections. This effort shows that Uganda is serious about making its roads safer and more efficient for all users.

Stay tuned for more updates as this important initiative continues to grow.
