Ugandan High Court Advocate Abducted In Broad Daylight

Must read

In a terrifying incident that has shocked the legal community and the nation at large, Counsel Abed Nasser Mudiobole, a respected lawyer and political leader from Iganga, was abducted in Kyaliwajjala. Mudiobole had travelled to the area after being invited for a meeting by someone claiming to be a client. However, upon his arrival, things took a dark and dangerous turn.

Heavily armed men appeared out of nowhere, pointed guns at him, and forced him into a “drone” van a vehicle now infamously associated with forced disappearances in Uganda. His current whereabouts remain unknown, and his family, colleagues, and fellow leaders are deeply worried about his safety.

Earlier in the day, Mudiobole had attended a meeting at the headquarters of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Uganda’s leading opposition party. Alongside other leaders from Eastern Uganda, he was part of a discussion focused on organizing youth elections an event that symbolized hope for democratic engagement and change.

No one expected that just hours later, one of their own would be taken forcefully and disappear without a trace. This incident is not just an attack on an individual; it is a direct threat to freedom of expression, democracy, and the rule of law.

Many people, including fellow lawyers and human rights advocates, have spoken out strongly against this abduction. The Uganda Law Society has publicly condemned the kidnapping, calling it a “wanton crime against humanity.” Such actions, they argue, do not show the strength of those in power. Instead, they reveal deep fear fear of free voices, fear of justice, and fear of an organized people demanding change.

But instead of being silenced, those close to Mudiobole are calling for even more unity and resilience. “Let us continue organising, mobilising and agitating for a better country,” said one of the leaders. This statement captures the spirit of defiance and hope that remains alive in Uganda’s political movement for justice and reform.

As the country waits for news about Counsel Mudiobole, one thing is clear Ugandans who believe in justice will not be silenced. They stand together, demanding answers, protection for human rights, and above all, an end to the culture of abductions and fear.
