Uganda’s 2025 Elections!! How to Pick Your Nomination Forms and What You Need to Know

Must read

Starting on August 11th, 2025, anyone who wants to run for President of Uganda can begin collecting nomination forms from the Electoral Commission headquarters in the 7th Street Industrial Area. This is the first step for those hoping to become the country’s next leader. To officially enter the race, presidential hopefuls must gather signatures from at least 100 supporters in two-thirds of Uganda’s districts. This means they need backing from 100 registered voters in at least 98 districts across the country. The forms to collect these supporter signatures will be available from August 11th until August 24th. Candidates must use these forms to move around the country and collect the needed endorsements.

In addition to supporter forms, presidential aspirants must also fill out nomination forms with their personal details. They are also required to read the nomination guidelines carefully to understand the process. These steps ensure that candidates meet all legal requirements to be accepted for nomination.

For those who want to run for Member of Parliament, including representatives of special interest groups, the process is slightly different. Their nomination forms are available online and can be downloaded from the Electoral Commission’s website, www.ec.org.ug. Candidates for district and city chairperson positions can also download their forms and guidelines from the same website. However, local government councillors at the sub-county level must visit their district Electoral Commission offices to pick up their nomination forms and guidelines.

It is important to note that the nomination dates for Members of Parliament have been moved to October 15th and 16th, giving candidates more time to prepare. Other important details and deadlines were announced last week and are available on the Commission’s website. The Electoral Commission urges all candidates to carefully check the information provided online and make sure they follow all the rules.

This announcement marks a key moment in Uganda’s electoral process as candidates across the country begin their journey to represent their communities. Whether you aspire to be President, MP, or local government leader, it’s time to prepare and follow the correct steps to make your voice heard in the 2025 elections.
