Uganda is setting its sights on becoming a global tourism powerhouse by 2040, thanks to a bold vision shared by the Uganda Communications Commission (@UCC_Official) and the Tourism Board (@TourismBoardUg). The plan focuses on digital transformation, making the country more visible, accessible, and connected for tourists around the world.
At the heart of this initiative is the use of technology to create seamless connectivity at major events, develop a lively digital marketplace for tour operators, and address connectivity challenges in Uganda’s beautiful national parks. Officials believe that the future of tourism lies in digital solutions, which will allow visitors to explore the country in real-time and experience its wonders virtually before they even arrive.
Innovation is a key part of the strategy. Plans include floating resorts on Lake Victoria and programs to empower a new generation of storytellers who can share Uganda’s unique culture and attractions with a global audience. The initiative also tackles challenges head-on, introducing measures against cyber fraud and rolling out digital skilling programs to ensure that tourism stakeholders are equipped with the necessary technology skills.
Importantly, this vision is not just aspirational. Clear actionable steps, measurable performance indicators, and dedicated partnerships are driving progress. The ultimate goal is ambitious: to make tourism contribute 10% of Uganda’s GDP by 2040. With digital innovation, creative ideas, and strong collaboration, this plan positions Uganda’s tourism sector for growth, global recognition, and long-term sustainability.
