The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Bamunoma Ubalido has urged police officers from the Greater Kigezi Region to use community sensitization as a tool to curb the rising murder cases in the area. He made the remarks during a visit to Kigezi, where murder cases have reportedly been increasing, often as a result of domestic conflicts.
“I commended our officers for their commitment to maintaining law and order. However, I urged them to step up efforts in addressing the worrying rise in murder cases, many of which result from domestic violence,” he said.
In his sensitization and ideological orientation program with officers across the Kigezi Sub-region, AIGP Ubalido emphasized that community sensitization is critical. He urged officers to fully utilize the Child and Family Protection Unit alongside the Community Liaison Department to help de-escalate domestic conflicts before they turn deadly.
He also tasked commanders to strengthen both foot and motorized patrols to reinforce security, while deepening collaboration with sister security agencies and other stakeholders, noting the strategic importance of Kigezi as a border region.
Highlighting the importance of professional investigations, he emphasized the role of force multipliers in working closely with the judiciary during case conferencing, ensuring proper handling of cases, securing convictions, and restoring public trust.
AIGP Ubalido further stressed the necessity of intelligence-led operations under a strong command structure to effectively prevent and manage crime. As he concluded, he reminded officers to maintain a positive attitude, strong beliefs, and the right mindset so that together, they can fulfill the police mandate of protecting and serving all Ugandans with humanity and professionalism.
