The political winds in Eastern Uganda are blowing red as Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, receives a thunderous endorsement from Bugisu Region as the sole presidential flag bearer for 2026.

Bobi Wine, the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), arrived in Mbale City to a hero’s welcome cheers, chants, and waving crowds lining the streets, affirming the region’s growing support for the opposition figure. The endorsement from Bugisu marks a significant moment in the run-up to Uganda’s 2026 general elections.
Local leaders, youth groups, and community members gathered to express their unshaken confidence in Kyagulanyi’s leadership, citing his unwavering commitment to democracy, human rights, and the voice of the common citizen.
“Bugisu is not just watching the change; we are part of the change. And today, we declare Bobi Wine our choice for 2026,” said one community leader during the endorsement rally.
This endorsement sends a powerful message across the political landscape, showing that NUP’s influence is not just confined to central Uganda, but expanding rapidly across regions traditionally seen as strongholds of the ruling party.
Bobi Wine took to the stage to thank the people of Bugisu for their love and trust. He emphasized unity, resilience, and the urgent need to end what he called “decades of injustice, oppression, and corruption.”
“The power of the people is stronger than the people in power,” Bobi Wine told the crowd. “We are not fighting individuals—we are fighting a system that has kept our people in poverty and silence.”

The move by Bugisu Region to back Bobi Wine as the sole opposition flag bearer is expected to influence similar declarations in other regions as the momentum builds toward the 2026 elections.
As the political season heats up, all eyes are now on how other regions will respond and whether this wave of support could become a nationwide movement toward change.
