Kampala Metropolitan East and Mukono territorial police have conducted coordinated operations targeting suspected criminal hideouts and hotspots in Kireka, Bweyogerere, Bukerere, and surrounding areas, leading to the arrest of 40 suspects and the recovery of 16 suspected stolen motorcycles.
According to police, one of the key operations was carried out in Kireka Zone C in Namugongo Division, Kiira Municipality, Wakiso District. Acting on intelligence, officers raided an illegal motorcycle reassembly garage that was allegedly being used by criminals to dismantle stolen motorcycles before reassembling them for resale. During the raid, 12 adult male suspects were arrested at the scene. Police also recovered 16 motorcycles, whose ownership and legal status are now being verified. The motorcycles were taken to Jinja Road Police Station to support ongoing investigations.
In a separate set of coordinated operations, police also targeted areas known for rising cases of drug abuse and street robberies. These operations were conducted in Wellspring, Kakajjo, and Kazinga Hassan Trabi zones in Kira Division, as well as Bukerere Village and nearby areas in Goma Division, Mukono District. Officers arrested 28 additional suspects, including three females, and recovered suspected narcotic substances believed to be linked to illegal drug activity in the area.
Police say these operations are part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal networks operating within the Kampala Metropolitan and Mukono areas. Authorities believe that such networks contribute to motorcycle theft, street crime, and drug-related offenses affecting residents.
All 40 suspects are currently in police custody and are undergoing processing as investigations continue. Police have indicated that charges will be preferred based on the findings of the ongoing inquiries and forensic verification of the recovered motorcycles and narcotics.
Kampala Metropolitan Police leadership has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal elements through sustained intelligence-led operations aimed at reducing crime, recovering stolen property, and improving public safety across the region.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed the operations and emphasized that such crackdowns will continue in order to restore safety and order in affected communities.
