Ugandans planning to attend or move around Kampala on Tuesday, 12th May 2026, have been urged to prepare for heavy security deployment and major traffic diversions as the country gears up for the presidential swearing-in ceremony at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
According to the official traffic and security guidelines released by the Uganda Media Centre, access routes leading to Kololo will be highly restricted, with only vehicles carrying accredited stickers allowed near the main venue. The measures are intended to ensure smooth movement of dignitaries, invited guests, and security teams during the high-profile national event.
Authorities revealed that key routes to Kololo will include the Ssezibwa Road and Golf Course traffic lights through John Babiha Road (Acacia Avenue), as well as routes from Entebbe International Airport via the Entebbe Express Highway, Northern Bypass, and Yusuf Lule Road. Another designated route will come through Munyonyo Spur connecting to Yusuf Lule Road.
Traffic police have also announced several redirections across Kampala to manage congestion. At Wampewo roundabout, motorists will be diverted to Jinja Road to access parking areas at UMI and Phaneroo Grounds. At the Fairway Hotel traffic lights near the Golf Course, only VVIP vehicles with red stickers will be permitted onto Acacia Avenue.
Members of the public approaching Katikati will instead be redirected toward Lugogo traffic lights on Jinja Road, while drivers coming from Old Kira Road and Mawanda Road through City Oil on Acacia Road will be diverted toward Mulago traffic lights.
Parking arrangements have also been carefully organized. VIP guests will access parking through Elgon Terrace and park at Heroes Corner within Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. Meanwhile, members of the public have been advised to use designated parking spaces at City High School, Phaneroo Grounds, UMI, and Millennium Grounds.
MPs are expected to park at Parliament, while members of the NRM Secretariat will use the Kyadondo offices parking area.
Police further warned that additional diversions may be introduced in areas including Mpala, Kisubi, Kajjansi Flyover, Lubowa, Zana, Serena-Kigo, Mutungo, Kitiko, Busabala traffic lights, and Munyonyo roundabout depending on the traffic situation throughout the day.
Authorities have urged all road users to plan their journeys early, follow guidance from traffic officers, and cooperate with security personnel to avoid unnecessary delays during the ceremony.
