Police are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed pupils’ property at Midland Junior School in Bulindo Village, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, after flames gutted a girls’ dormitory on Thursday afternoon. Fortunately, no one was injured or killed, thanks to the quick response by the Police and Fire Prevention and Rescue Services.
The fire broke out at around 2:00 p.m. on August 6, 2026, in the girls’ dormitory that houses Primary Six and Primary Seven pupils. Preliminary findings indicate that the fire started from an unknown source, and investigators are working to establish the exact cause.
The blaze destroyed beds, mattresses, clothes, books, and other personal belongings belonging to the pupils. Although the property loss was substantial, the incident ended without any casualties, bringing relief to parents, school administrators, and the surrounding community.
After receiving the report, officers from Kira Division Police, together with the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services, rushed to the school and managed to contain the flames before they spread to other buildings. Their swift intervention prevented what could have turned into a much bigger disaster.
Scene of Crime Officers later visited the school to examine the affected dormitory and collect evidence. Police have also recorded statements from witnesses as part of investigations into the incident.
The fire has left several pupils without their personal belongings, and the school is expected to make temporary arrangements to support the affected learners as investigations continue.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing. He added that police will provide further updates once the exact cause of the fire has been established.
