Police in Nsangi have arrested a 31-year-old man suspected of being part of a group behind a series of motorcycle robberies in the Kampala Metropolitan Area, particularly in Kyengera, Nsangi and Maya.
The suspect has been identified as Mweluka Yusuf, a boda boda rider and resident of Nsangi Central, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District. Police also recovered a stolen red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UGG 521D, which had allegedly been robbed from another boda boda rider.
According to police, the motorcycle was stolen at about 1:00am on August 17, 2026, after the victim picked up a passenger from Acacia in Kamwokya, Kampala. The passenger reportedly told the rider that he was travelling to Kyengera.

When they reached Total Petrol Station in Kyengera, the passenger allegedly asked the rider to leave the main Kampala-Masaka Road and take a route towards Mugongo Zone. A short distance from the main road, the passenger reportedly asked the rider to stop.
Police said that as the passenger appeared to be getting off the motorcycle, he allegedly grabbed the rider by the neck. At the same time, two other men armed with pangas reportedly emerged from a nearby bush and threatened to attack the rider.
The attackers allegedly robbed him of the motorcycle before fleeing from the scene.
Following intelligence gathered by police, the stolen motorcycle was traced to Savana Parking Yard in Nabbingo, Kiyanja Zone, Wakiso District. Police said Mweluka was intercepted at about 8:00pm on August 17 while allegedly attempting to collect the motorcycle, reportedly with plans to sell it in Ndeeba.
He was arrested and taken into police custody, while the motorcycle was recovered as investigations continue.
Police are now working to identify and arrest the suspect’s alleged accomplices and establish whether the group could be connected to other motorcycle robberies reported within the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
Police have also urged boda boda riders to remain vigilant when carrying passengers, especially strangers who request them to leave busy main roads and enter isolated areas.
SP Racheal Kawala, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, said investigations are ongoing.
