Police in Kira Division are investigating the stabbing to death of a 35-year-old man following a dispute that started during a card game at a bar in Kireku Zone, Bweyogerere Division, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.
The deceased has been identified as Nuwamanya Hamza, a resident of Kireku Zone. According to police, the incident happened at about 1:00am on August 17, 2026, at Twine’s Bar, where Nuwamanya was playing cards with other people.
Police said trouble started after Nuwamanya allegedly picked Shs2,000 belonging to Katabani Julius, leading to a quarrel between the two men. The bar owner reportedly intervened, paid the disputed amount and ordered Nuwamanya to leave the premises.
However, police said Katabani allegedly followed Nuwamanya outside the bar, where another confrontation reportedly took place. During the confrontation, Nuwamanya allegedly punched Katabani, who is accused of responding by stabbing him with a knife.
Nuwamanya was rushed to Kireku Health Centre for medical attention before being referred to Mulago Hospital for further treatment. However, he later died at the hospital on the afternoon of August 17.
Police said statements have been recorded from witnesses and other persons of interest as investigations continue. The deceased’s body was taken to Kampala City Mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
Efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest Katabani, who is being treated as the key suspect in the murder. Meanwhile, three other suspects have been arrested to assist police with the ongoing investigations.
SP Racheal Kawala, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said police are continuing with efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death.
