Members of Parliament have raised concerns over the delayed completion of major infrastructure projects in West Nile, questioning why key bridge constructions have remained unfinished for years despite government funds being released.
The Committee on Government Assurances, chaired by Hon. Francis Zaake, made the concerns during an oversight visit to the region to assess the implementation of government commitments and projects.
In Arua District, the legislators found that three major bridge projects at Odrua, Allah and Osu had stalled since they were launched in the 2021/22 financial year. The committee noted that the Ministry of Works and Transport had released Shs28 billion meant for the construction of the bridges, yet the projects had not been completed.

The MPs expressed concern over the impact of the delays on communities that depend on the bridges for transport, trade and access to essential services. They said the slow progress raises questions about project management, accountability and the effective use of public resources.
The committee also highlighted other challenges affecting infrastructure development in the area, including failure to compensate affected communities, poor drainage systems, substandard road works and the accumulation of silt along river banks.
The legislators warned that incomplete projects not only waste government investments but also continue to inconvenience citizens who were meant to benefit from the infrastructure improvements.
The committee said it will engage relevant government agencies, including the Ministry of Works and Transport, to establish the reasons behind the delays and push for the completion of the projects to ensure taxpayers receive value for money.
