Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has directed journalist and political commentator Andrew Mwenda to stop speaking publicly about issues concerning Tooro.
In a statement posted on X, Muhoozi said he had instructed Mwenda, whom he referred to as a comrade, not to comment on matters concerning the Tooro region again.
“I have instructed comrade @AndrewMwenda not to speak about the issues of Tooro again. He will stop it immediately,” Muhoozi posted.
The directive comes amid discussions surrounding the Tooro Kingdom and the recent tragedy involving the death of the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, which has attracted widespread public attention and mourning.
Muhoozi also used the statement to extend condolences to the people of Tooro, saying the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) shared in their grief following the tragedy.
“Once again, as PLU we commiserate with the great Batooro people on the tragedy that befell all of us,” he said.
He concluded the message by paying tribute to the late King Oyo, praying for his soul to rest in peace.
The statement marks a clear attempt by Muhoozi to distance PLU from further public commentary on Tooro affairs by Mwenda. His instruction also comes as public discussions about the kingdom and its leadership continue to attract attention.
Mwenda has been a prominent public commentator on Ugandan political and cultural affairs, and his views on national issues have often generated debate. Muhoozi’s latest directive therefore signals that he does not want Mwenda to continue weighing in on Tooro-related matters.
