The High Court in Kampala has ordered the Uganda Prisons Service to ensure that National Unity Platform (NUP) deputy spokesperson Waiswa Mufumbiro is produced before court to attend all hearings related to his election petitions challenging the victory of Fredrick Ruhindi in Nakawa East.
Mufumbiro is seeking court intervention to cancel Ruhindi’s victory, arguing that the Nakawa East election was marred by irregularities that affected the outcome of the poll.
The election dispute is before the High Court, where Mufumbiro is challenging the declaration of Ruhindi as the winner of the Nakawa East seat.
The petitioner has also raised concerns about the conduct of the electoral process and accused the Electoral Commission of failing to properly perform its duties during the election.
In its latest directive, the court ordered the Uganda Prisons Service to ensure that Mufumbiro is brought to court whenever his election petitions come up for hearing.
The order is intended to allow Mufumbiro to personally attend and participate in the proceedings as he seeks to have the court examine the circumstances surrounding Ruhindi’s victory.
The Nakawa East election dispute has attracted significant political attention, with Mufumbiro, a senior NUP official, seeking to overturn the result through the courts.
The court is expected to hear evidence and arguments from the parties before making a determination on whether the election and the subsequent declaration of Ruhindi as the winner should stand.
