In a horrifying attack that has shaken Omoro District, two young students lost their lives when their school hostel was set ablaze in the dead of night. The chilling incident occurred at Lux Senior Secondary School, located in Labora Subcounty, leaving the community in grief and outrage.
According to police reports, unknown assailants forcefully entered the girls’ hostel in the early hours of April 18th and intentionally set it on fire. Trapped inside, the two female students whose identities remain undisclosed for safety and privacy could not escape the raging flames.
By the time authorities arrived, the hostel had been severely damaged, and the lifeless bodies of the students were discovered inside the smoldering remains.
“This is not just a fire. This is murder,” declared ASP David Ongom Mudong, spokesperson for the Aswa West Police Region. “We are treating this as a deliberate arson attack with the intent to kill, and we are working tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice.”
Investigations are underway, with the Homicide Department at Omoro CPS leading the case. A manhunt has been launched to track down the suspects, and security in the area has been heightened.
The attack has also raised alarm across the education sector, with calls for tighter security at boarding schools, particularly in rural regions.
Meanwhile, police have cautioned the public and social media users against sharing inflammatory or false information about the incident. “Spreading unverified content can spark tribal divisions and hinder investigations,” ASP Mudong warned.
As families mourn the loss of their daughters, the nation watches closely, hoping for answers—and justice.
