Rajiv Ruparelia, the son of Ugandan businessman Sudhir Ruparelia, has died in a tragic car accident early Saturday morning.
The crash happened at around 1:54 AM at the Busabala Flyover traffic lights in Makindye-Ssabagabo, Wakiso District, according to a statement from the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety.
Rajiv was driving a Nissan GTR with registration number UAT 638L. He was heading from Kajjansi towards Munyonyo when the car hit temporary pavements at the roundabout on the flyover.
The impact caused the car to overturn and catch fire. Sadly, Rajiv died instantly. Investigators believe he was unable to get out of the vehicle in time.
The cause of the crash is still unknown, and police are continuing their investigations.
Rajiv played a big role in running the Ruparelia Group and was also involved in motorsport. Many saw him as the future leader of his father’s business empire.
Police spokesperson SP Kananura Michael confirmed his death in a press statement and sent condolences to the Ruparelia family.
