BREAKING!! Bobi Wine’s Bodyguard Eddie Mutwe Remanded Over Robbery Charges

Must read

Edward Ssebuufu, known as Eddie Mutwe and a close bodyguard to opposition leader Bobi Wine, has been charged with robbery and sent to prison.

Security officers brought him to Masaka High Court on Monday, May 5, 2025. He was limping and needed help to walk into the courtroom.

Journalists were not allowed to cover the court session. Eddie Mutwe’s lawyer, Magellan Kazibwe, said he was stopped outside the court gate for nearly 40 minutes by security officers who claimed they were waiting for orders from Kampala.

“It was frustrating and disrespectful,” Kazibwe said, adding that they were only allowed in after the Uganda Law Society stepped in.

By the time Kazibwe entered, the charges had already been read by Magistrate Abdullah Kayiza. Mutwe is accused of both simple and aggravated robbery.

Three others from Bobi Wine’s security team—Achileo Kivumbi, Gaddafi Mugumya, and Grace Wakabi—face similar charges. The alleged robbery happened in Manja village, Lwengo District.

According to Kazibwe, the case was started by some journalists in Masaka.

Eddie Mutwe will stay in Masaka Main Prison until May 25, 2025.

Last week, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, son of President Museveni, claimed Mutwe was in his basement learning Runyankore and mocked Bobi Wine by asking, “What will you do about it?”

In response, opposition figure Gen Mugisha Muntu warned President Museveni to control his son before things go too far.
