Just In!! Mob Kills Another Police Officer After Shooting Incident in Oyam

Must read

A tragic and violent incident took place in Oyam District, North Kyoga Region, on the evening of May 18, 2025, leaving two people dead one civilian and a police officer. The shocking event occurred in Tecik Village and is now under serious investigation.

According to an official report filed under Oyam CRB 329/2025, the incident began at around 6:24 p.m. when three police officers — Detective Constable Ojok Herick, Detective Constable Aguta Robert, and Police Constable Naturinda John Bosco — booked out from Ngai Police Station to conduct an arrest in Tecik village.

What was supposed to be a routine arrest quickly turned into chaos.

When the officers arrived in the village, tension grew among the local people. An argument or confrontation broke out, and in the heat of the moment, the police allegedly shot and killed a civilian named Ojok Nelson Omoding. The situation immediately spiraled out of control.

Enraged by the shooting, the villagers turned aggressive and began chasing the officers. Two officers managed to flee the scene, but PC Naturinda John Bosco was not as lucky. In a desperate attempt to find safety, he ran to the home of the Local Council 1 chairman of Tecik village. Unfortunately, the chairman handed him over to the angry mob.

The mob, still furious over the earlier shooting, beat the officer to death on the spot.

By the time a team of senior police officers, including SP Mutegeki Job, the District Police Commander of Oyam, and ASP Tumuhangirwe Levi, the Officer in Charge of the station, arrived at the scene, it was too late. The bodies lay as painful reminders of a day gone horribly wrong.

The situation at the scene has since calmed down, but many questions remain. PC Naturinda’s rifle, which was registered under number UG POL 565835910-33087 and loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, is missing. It is unclear whether it was taken by someone during the chaos or lost in the scuffle. Police are still searching for the missing firearm.

Additionally, the whereabouts of the two officers who fled — Ojok Herick and Aguta Robert — are still unknown. A search operation is underway to locate them and gather more details on what exactly led to the fatal shooting.

This heartbreaking incident reveals how quickly situations can turn deadly when there is a breakdown of trust between law enforcement and the community. Investigations are ongoing, and police have promised to provide updates as more information becomes available.

Authorities are also urging the public to remain calm and to allow lawful investigations to take place rather than resorting to mob justice, which only leads to more loss and suffering.
