A well-known lawyer based in Kampala, Mudiobole Abedi Nasser, has landed in legal trouble after being accused of taking part in unlawful military-style training activities. According to a charge sheet filed at Iganga Police Station, Abedi, who is 44 years old and a member of the Musoga tribe, is facing serious accusations under the Penal Code Act of Uganda.
Abedi works with Mudiobole Advocates, a legal firm located on Rubaga Road in Kampala. He also lives in Namugongo, Kira Municipality in Wakiso District. However, his name is now linked to a criminal case in Iganga District.
Police say that on April 5, 2025, at Kasolo Village in Bulowoza Parish, Iganga District, Abedi was present during a meeting of the National Unity Platform (NUP). During this meeting, NUP mobilizers and supporters reportedly took part in training sessions that involved the use of weapons and military-style drills.
The training is said to have taken place without the permission of the Minister, which is against the law. According to the authorities, this kind of activity is considered unlawful drilling — a serious offense under Section 45(1)(a) and (b) of the Penal Code Act Cap 128.
The police officer who preferred the charge is D/SP Basemera Rhita, and the case was officially recorded on May 20, 2025.
This case has raised many questions and is likely to spark national attention due to the involvement of a high-profile legal professional and the sensitive nature of the charges, especially given the political environment in Uganda.
