In Kyotera District, a strange and shocking event recently took place that left many residents surprised. A retired Police Constable, Lubega Francis, was caught stealing matooke (bananas) from the garden of a local resident, Ssebabuga Bernard. What makes this story even more unusual is that Lubega used to serve in the police force—yet now, he was caught committing a crime himself.
The theft had been happening for a while, and Ssebabuga decided enough was enough. He reported the issue to the police, and the Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigations (OC CID) decided to bring in a police dog, named Tracker, to help find the culprit. Tracker was given the scent from the scene and quickly followed the trail. The skilled dog led the officers straight to Lubega’s doorstep.
To the shock of the officers and the community, the former police officer was found in possession of the stolen matooke. When questioned, Lubega did not deny the act. He admitted to stealing the bananas, confirming what the police dog had already proven.
This case shows that justice does not choose sides. Even someone who once worked to enforce the law can be held accountable when they break it. The police dog did not hesitate or show bias—it simply did its job, proving that animals trained for justice don’t look at ranks or titles.
People in Kyotera are now talking about the incident, some in disbelief and others with a sense of justice served. The story serves as a lesson to everyone: the law is for all, and no one is too important or too retired to face the consequences of their actions.
