Your Vote Counts!! SIGs Elections Pave Way for 2026 General Elections

Must read

The Electoral Commission of Uganda has officially started the election activities for Special Interest Groups (SIGs) at the Parish and Ward levels. These elections are an important part of the roadmap leading up to the 2025–2026 General Elections. They are meant to help select committee leaders for key groups, including Older Persons, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and the Youth.

Only specific individuals are allowed to take part in these elections. To vote, one must be registered on the National Voters Register, be listed on the SIGs register for their respective group, and live in the Parish or Ward where the election is happening. This helps make sure that only eligible members of these special interest groups take part in choosing their leaders.

The Electoral Commission is encouraging everyone involved to participate peacefully and follow the rules. This is not just an election it’s a chance to build strong and fair leadership starting from the grassroots. It gives people in every community the opportunity to choose leaders who understand their unique needs and can speak for them at higher levels.

These SIGs elections are more than just a requirement. They show Uganda’s commitment to giving every citizen a voice, no matter their age, ability, or background. Through this process, the country is working toward a more inclusive and representative government that reflects the true face of its people.

As the 2026 General Elections draw closer, the SIGs elections remind all Ugandans that every vote matters. Whether you’re a young person, an elder, or someone living with a disability your voice can shape the future.

Your Vote. Your Voice. Let it be heard.
