There was drama in Kitintale this morning when armed robbers stormed a mobile money shop near Access Building. The attackers threatened two mobile money agents, Ssebanenya Ibrahim and Kyeyune Rashid, and ordered them to hand over cash. The robbers then began packing money into their bags.
Luckily, the two agents managed to escape and raised an alarm. Their quick thinking alerted members of the community, who immediately contacted Kitintale Police. Officers quickly responded and began chasing the fleeing robbers as they ran toward Bugolobi.
During the pursuit, one of the suspects, Matovu Farouk, was captured with the help of community members. He is now being held at Jinja Road Police Station. However, the second robber continued running while firing gunshots into the air to scare off police officers and boda boda riders chasing him.
The chase ended in Bugolobi, where a UPDF soldier who was guarding a nearby residence saw the armed suspect and shot him dead. Police later secured the scene and recovered a rifle with two short magazines from the deceased robber.
Investigations are still ongoing. Police are working to determine the exact amount of money stolen and to understand more details about the robbery. The swift action by the victims, the community, and security forces helped stop what could have been a much worse situation.
